Auditions 2010
 

Auditions will take place in August, 2010

 You do not to have to be a student at Matthew Flinders GSC to audition for Sweethearts. Current members include students from a variety of schools in the region. All members of Sweethearts are required to complete the Certificate IV in Music. Students from Sacred Heart College, Geelong, please note that your school does not allow you to enrol in the Regional Certificate IV VET course.
We are looking for persons with skills in one or more of the following areas: Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Keys, Drums, Trombone, Trumpet, Saxophone, Flute,  Sound Production.

Vocal Auditions
You must register with Mr Ross Lipson, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
  1. Submit an audio CD or mp3 of you singing a song of your choice with backings. It should be of a suitable genre and show off your strengths. The CD must be clearly labeled with your name and contact details on it.
  2. You must submit this recording with a short application (100words) in writing as to why you wish to be in Sweethearts by . The earlier you get this in the more time you will get to prepare for the final round should you be successful.
  3. If successful you will then go into the final round of live auditions
    All applicants need to demonstrate a willingness to dance and improvise vocally.

  4. All players will need to demonstrate a willingness to improvise vocally and to dance.
All recordings must be submitted to Mr. Lipson either by email (mp3) or as a CD delivered to Matthew Flinders Girls Sec College.

Instrumental Auditions

You will receive an audition time. You will be required to play or do the following:
  1. A jazz based piece or exercise of your own choice.
  2. Major scales to 4 sharps and flats.
  3. Sight read
  4. Interview/plus you must submit in writing an application (100 words)as to why you wish to be in Sweethearts.
  5. All players will need to demonstrate a willingness to improvise on their instrument and dance.

Auditions will take place on August 19 or 20.
A time table will go up on display in the week preceding.
Non MFGSC applicants will be phoned or emailed.

Auditions Final Round

Auditions for most students will take place either on August 19 and 20 unless otherwise negotiated. 
All applicants required to present for the final round of auditions will be contacted by email or phone. 
A backing CD plus version of original will be available from the Helen Fraser Campus Office of Matthew Flinders Girls Secondary College. Alternatively digital mp3 files can be emailed out. 

Lyrics can be obtained off the cd or via the internet.

All applicants will be expected to present three pieces plus complete interviews and tests as outlined below:

  1. Piece of your choice
  2. Set pieces : "Community Service Announcement" + "Secret"
  3. “Ear tests"
  4. Interview
Please note!!
  • All players will need to demonstrate a willingness to improvise vocally and to dance.
  • If you are in year 10 or 11 next year it is mandatory for you to enrol in the Certificate IV in Music for 2011 (this is a two year course and will run parallel in the timetable with other VET courses in the region)
